sunday's food for thought

So I came across this quote by Gordon B. Hinckley, "Life is to be enjoyed, not endured." I read it and thought how meant to be it was for me to read and think about. Because often times I find myself getting so caught up in wishing I could just fast forward to the day my missionary will be home, and not caring about experiencing the "in-between" portion. Isn't that sad? haha (Well probably more pathetic, than sad...that's what I meant. Lol) But it's true, I've thought of that a time or two..(or three, four, whatever?) and than I have to remember what Elder Atiga writes me. About enjoying the now and this experience. And I know that he's so right. Rather than (literally) just trying to endure to the end I need to enjoy this journey up until it ends. Because there is so much that I know is set up for me during this time to do and accomplish and can only be done when I enjoy this and use my time wisely, rather than just going through the motions to let time pass and have my man home again! haha. Opportunities are only guaranteed for so long until another one comes up and the one before is completely gone. So yeah, that's just a little "food for thought" i thought i'd share today! (: and hopefully this quote helps more than just myself (;

  1. Love this post! I can totally relate to this! I've always found myself just wishing for time to pass, and not taking advantage of having fun and enjoying life on my own! It's so hard when the goal of having them back is just all you can think about sometimes!!

  2. That is sooo true Stephanie. I do try and do my own thing and have fun but at the end of the day, I can't wait to put another sticker up on my countdown chart and be a day closer to being with him! haha. ahhhhh, the life of an MG (;

  3. I'm so absolutely proud of you Stephanie. You are passed the point where most missionary girlfriends decide they don't want to keep their word to wait and still going strong. Because of you I have so much faith that I will be able to wait patiently for my missionary. You are, seriously, one of my heroes.

  4. Oh I love your blog! Thanks so much for sharing your story. I really enjoy this post because my missionary is leaving on October 17, and will be back October 2014. We've been dating for two years and I'm definitely going to wait for him. When everyone found out he was going to serve a mission, everyone asked me, "What will you DO while he's gone?!" with really concerned, confused looks on their faces. I gave them some generic answer about school and travel, blah blah blah, but honestly, their question seemed silly to me. I'll be doing everything a girl without a boyfriend/husband does between the age of 19 and 21...minus (of course) dating! Lots of girls don't even have boyfriends or husbands during that time! I consider myself lucky that I have him and I intend to enjoy the two years we are apart, knowing that when he returns we can have eternity together. And as incomprehensible as two years apart may seem, eternity is FAR longer! :D
